There's a good reason why you'll keep hearing about "wear layers" when shopping for luxury vinyl (LVF). They are crucial to the material's durability.
Luxury vinyl plank is one form of LVF. The other is square, tile-sized pieces.
The floor’s bodyguard
Wear layers are a strong, clear coating over the design layer. This keeps all forms protected from scratches, scuffs, and dents.
It also helps with waterproofing. The wear layer keeps spills at the top, waiting to be wiped off.
The wear layer is also where the embossing takes place. That adds textures, finishes, knots, raised grains, and all Mother Nature's "imperfections."
Five times thicker
Both vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile are layered, automatically making it more dense and solid. A clear urethane finish at the very top adds extra strength and shine.
Great value for the decorating dollar
We call this "affordable style." It offers true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile.
They are so realistic sometimes even the flooring experts have trouble telling it from the real thing. You won’t pay nearly the same price, though!
No scrubbing necessary
All that’s needed is a regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. That’s enough to keep your vinyl plank and squares, LVP and LVT, in top shape.
Stains are easily removed, usually with a baking soda/water paste or WD-40. It's always wise to check with a flooring expert, however.
Installation is a snap (literally) when it's a floating floor with click, mat, and hover. Subfloors need only be clean, dry, and level.
